ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY AND CURE OF STAMMERING

This Association was established in Munich, Germany in October of l972, the first meeting held at the Ludwig Maximillian University Library (commonly known as the University of Munich).

The ASCS was organized to study certain prominent “cures” for stuttering which were then available and to write and promote literature in line with the organization’s viewpoint. Much research was contributed to the study of right brain/left brain and its possible application to the problem of stuttering. The group studied the principles of Zen as well as Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Fritz Perls and all the "Greats" of the self-actualizing movement.  "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" was a favorite.

The Association promotes the book SPEAKING THE NATURAL WAY -- A Book for Stutterers,  because it embodies the group’s view of stuttering and what can be done about it.The author of this book, Ruth Mead,  stuttered for 33 years and was able to overcome it. This is her story.
